Tossed To & Fro
Source text: Ephesians 4:11-16
...so that we may no longer be children tossed to and fro....
Our theme for 2022 is "Confident Christians". This excerpt from Ephesians 4 is a reference of those that would very much be the opposite of confident.
The devil loves to scare and bewilder people. If he can keep folks confused then he has a better chance of getting people to make bad choices
What are some problems that can arise from the state of learned helplessness? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Do you see the characters mentioned in Hebrews 11 suffering from this? YES / NO
What did they have? ____________________What did it enable them to do? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Consider Ephesians 4:14, does being tossed back and forth happen by accident? YES / NO
Can you list any examples of what Paul is referring to as “every wind of doctrine"? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Some people "just know" or "just feel" something is right or wrong concerning various parts of the Gospel. Often this is motivated by our emotional experience. Are our emotions a reliable source for truth? YES / NO
Why are our emotions not a reliable source for guidance in areas of truth and righteousness? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________
This should cause me to think very carefully when choosing who I want to hang around with and let influence me.
Our lives are jammed full of ungodly messages. List a few: _____________________________ , ________________________________ , ____________________________________ , __________________________________
According to Proverbs 14:12 if we rely on how we think it should go where does that lead us? ___________________________
Highlight Ephesians 4:15-16, study, pray, and meditate on what it means to, grow up in every way, into Christ, and let this serve as the focal point to avoid all the dangers discussed today!!
Final thought :
In many ways Jesus asks us to be like children. There are a variety of reasons He makes this plea. However, when it comes to being mature enough to weather the storms of life and "rightly divide" the scriptures we indeed need to act like grown, clear thinking, godly-confident adults.
