Andrew, the Man in the Shadows
Series: The Men Jesus ChoseAndrew, whose name means "manly", was often out-shown by the prominence and impulsive character of his brother Peter. Yet, in this lesson, we learn that Andrew was the one whom Peter learned of Jesus first. Andrew's first priority was to share Jesus with his brother. Andrew was a fisherman, who had forsaken his nets to become a "fisher of men". He demonstrated his devotion to the Lord by what some may call "small things", such as trusting the Lord to make much of the little bread and fish that a young boy had, bringing Gentiles directly to Jesus, reacting humbly to the societal perceptions around him, and demonstrating his love for not only the Lord, but individual souls, as he spoke to many people purely indivdually, rather than to crowds (like his brother Peter).
