I AM The Way, The Truth, The Life
Series: The I AM's of JesusJohn records more of Jesus' conversation with His apostles the night before His death than any other gospel writer (John 13-17). In John 13, after washing their feet, Jesus announces Juda would betray Him afterward. Peter speaks up saying he will follow Jesus to the death, but Jesus foretells Peter's denials. How their heads must have been spinner with confustion and apprehension!
Jesus perceives their hearts are troubled (John 14:1). He makes a promise to them. Far from abandoning them, He is leaving with a purpose. He promises to go and prepare a dwelling place in His Father's house for them. He promises to return and take them to this home with the Father.
Who can make such a claim? To presume not only to have access to the dwelling place of God but to have the authority to expand it and take His followers with him to live in God's home is beyond a mere man.
