The Great Promise-Keeper
"Blessed be the LORD who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant." (1 Kings 8:56).
Have you ever been let down? Has someone ever just simply neglected to fulfill a promise that they made to you? Perhaps it was something fairly trivial, or at least they thought so, but maybe it was really important to you. I’m sure we’ve been disappointed by many people, but think about a time where it was done by someone very close to you, say your best friend, or even your spouse when it really mattered.
What about you? Have you ever simply failed to deliver on a promise. It’s possible that you communicated that you wouldn’t fulfill your commitment ahead of time, but even then it’s hard to gauge the consequences. Who was the closest person that you ever disappointed?
We are not perfect and we do make mistakes, or even at times choose to neglect our responsibilities. On some occasions we fully understand the impact of those failures and in others we perceive them as harmless. But whatever the case may be, at some point even the closest and most dedicated people to us on this earth will let us down.
How remarkable then it is that we have a God that always delivers on his promises. We’re told that “not one word has failed” — incredible. Understanding that should change the way you read His Word because He will deliver. That is both encouraging (to those who obey) and terrifying (to those who don’t). Know today that God will keep his promises and use that knowledge to fully trust and commit yourself to Him. May we all praise God for the promises he has and will fulfill.
