Are the People I'm Following on Social Media Worth Following?
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Phil 4:8).
As people see my social media posts, tweets, pins, comments, and pictures, they will be led to think. With that in mind, here are a couple of questions worth meditating upon today:
- Are my social media posts, tweets, pins, comments, and pictures helping people to think about what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise?
- As people see my posts, tweets, pins, comments, and pictures, might they be led to think about untrue, dishonorable, unjust, impure, unlovely, shameful, disgraceful, vile things?
- When I "follow" or "friend" someone else online, I am willfully granting them direct access to my mind. I will be led to think certain things throughout the day based on what they share. In light of Philippians 4:8, is there anyone I should unfollow so that my thoughts are not led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ (2 Cor 11:3)?
As we spend time on social media, we are being led and are leading others to think. The things we think about matter. The impact we have on others is serious.
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. (Prov 4:23)
